Nov 10, 2017
Texting is a powerful but underutilized marketing tool that can be misused. Texting has a 100% open rate and a 98% read rate largely due to the fact that the average American checks their phone over 150 times a day. There are a lot of simple mistakes that business could avoid to make their texting more effective.
Here are 5 ways to make business texting more effective to get a better return.
Be Personal
Remember the last time one of your friends said “Man I love this company that talks to me like a robot!” probably not. Texting is a very personal form of communication so keep it that way. Put in your customer's name in the text, even in mass text message blast, some texting software will insert their name to give you a personal touch.
Keep it Short
Texting is not emailing so don’t write your text like an email. Keep your texting short and sweet, don’t try and fit all your information in your text message. A good standard to keep your texts to is 160 characters. If you need to get out more information put a link in the text to your website and use a bit.ly to shorten it.
Be Direct
Don’t waste time just get to the point. If your customers know who you are already don’t waste their time by introducing yourself in every text. Get to the point so they know exactly what you are promoting or asking them to do. “Hey Steve your a great customer come in for 25% off storewide! See you soon!”
Ask Questions
Asking for feedback will help you get more interaction with your clients and customers. Asking for their opinion also validates them and shows that your business cares. When customers can easily talk to a business then they will give honest feedback and increase customer retention.
Respond quickly
Business should be responding to their customer's texts no longer than 5 minutes. Get back to your customer's texts as soon as you can to increase your customer satisfaction.
